Deirdre “Dee” DeWitt Maltby, author of “While I Was Out…“ shares with the PRF forum her near death experience the personal and spiritual evolution that followed.
In 2008, Deirdre “Dee” DeWitt Maltby from Salida, Colorado was the victim of a traumatic and fatal car accident. The accident took her to an unfamiliar place of light and new experiences. However this wasn’t the end but the beginning of a new and different life with greater awareness and understanding for her. In the hospital she had another near death experience followed by even other experiences that allow her to understand life and death on new terms. Dee is not a religious person but this dramatic introduction to possibly life’s most significant transition event has given her insights beneficial to many of us.
Dee has a very genuine sense about her and a true fascination about what these experiences have given her as a gift. She was moved to chart a modified course in life now doing some things she had absolutely no interest in…not to mention the fear of. Dee was compelled to write a book about her new journey “While I Was Out…“ and begin sharing her evolving experience with others. She is not a seasoned speaker but is comfortable speaking candidly from the heart and has some valuable insights that help others in their life experience including better relating to the passing of those close to us.
Many have had what we refer to as Near Death Experiences or NDEs. The experience of dying, leaving your physical body and finding yourself in a place that most don’t return from (at least to the same body and time). Having full memory of the experience and returning to the body alters a person in many ways. A fully conscious experience on the other side of this earthly veil is extremely enlightening. One’s beliefs or understandings of what life is or isn’t has just been clarified to some extent in a way few experience.
We wonder what it will be like…as we look back from the next experience beyond mysterious veil of death how will we view and assess who we were and what we did here. Perhaps it’s one of the most important questions we can ask ourselves in advance. That way we have time to alter our perceptions, values priorities and choices to make a more valuable contribution to who and what we truly are on a grander scale. It would likely be a much richer life experience here too.
Based on the hundreds of thousands of stories of these experiences from every culture it is apparent we don’t cease to exist but we do continue on in a different form and experience. We will all experience death as a major event of being alive in this third dimensional reality yet we know or think so little about it. As we get older its significance becomes more apparent and thought provoking. As those close to us pass we consider the experience and what it truly means from many perspectives. Our best opportunity to learn more is to discover through the eyes, hearts and souls of what others have experienced. Taking a valuable break from your demanding routine to consider your life could be the best gift you could give yourself.
